Watch United Bid A Fond Farewell To The Boeing 747

For almost 50 years the Boeing 747 has been an iconic bid in the sky with its recognizable hump it’s probably the most identified aircraft. Since its rollout in 1969 it’s caused a stir in the aviation community being the only double-decker modern airliner, of course except for recently with the Airbus A380.

While the Airbus A380 takes the cake for largest jetliner in the world it doesn’t have the same feeling or class of excellence that the Boeing 747 has. Unfortunately it’s getting harder and harder to find airlines using the Boeing 747 now opting for the more efficient Boeing 787 or Boeing 777 to replace it. The last US carriers are starting to retire their Boeing 747s with mostly overseas carriers like British Airways and Lufthansa making up the majority of Boeing 747 operators.

Being a seasoned traveler I haven’t even flown in a 747 yet but I wish to make that a priority now that carriers are making a move to retire the Queen of the Skies and replace it with newer modern airplanes.

For the Boeing 747 flying in it is an experience to behold this large beautiful jetliner. As she gets older more airlines will retire it and it will be one of those jetliners that was.

There is new hope for these Boeing 747s as they exit their passenger service, some are being converted into freighters and working the rest of their lives as cargo handling giants making the world’s markets move. Some are even being converted into firefighting aircraft to assist with large-scale forest fires all around the world.

I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t have a story to tell about the Boeing 747 in one way or the other. There’s always a unique and interesting experience to have when flying on this massive aircraft that someone has to offer when telling stories of their trips or how its affected them in some way.

If you have your own story about the Boeing 747 we invite you to share it in the comments.
