Have you ever seen 116 planes on a single runway at once? How about all of them taking off at the same time? A tradition for Oshkosh, a massive fly in for private pilots and aviation enthusiasts, is for the Beechcraft clubs to get together and fly all in a formation to the small airport which becomes the world’s busiest airport for a week during the event.

In this particular video posted from the 2017 Oshkosh event they got an astounding 116 planes to participate and fly in a formation flight all the way to the small general aviation airport. As you can see it took a lot of planning and a in-depth plan that was published to all pilots ahead of time.

The mechanics of the massive Oshkosh event is something that intrigues me, this small general aviation airport doesn’t see much action during most of the year, then for a weekend in July it becomes the world’s busiest airport outshining even Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport. During the event a special control tower is set up that uses the entire airport to land aircraft. Some aircraft land halfway down the runway, some land on a taxiway, some even in grass areas. It’s really an interesting experience and something that would be fun to visit by any aviation enthusiast.

This video shows off the whole planning, briefing, and flight of this massive formation flight, something that you don’t see everyday.
